What Campus Is NOT…

cBefore I tell you what campus is, please allow me to tell you what it is not or even ask me to. You know what?  Campus is not sex, it is not orgies and partying and booze and weed. No!  That is not all that campus is about.  Mamma and Poppa, if you really think that’s all there is to campus, then think again. I beg to differ and on this, I stand corrected. Campus is responsibility.  It is obligations and limits of where individual lifestyles begin and where it ends. (Note I said lifestyles not lives, you got it?) It is in between these extremes. Campus begins by telling you that all of us are not and can never be equal in all aspects. It shows you that we all can’t be tails neither can all of us be heads.  Campus is where we wake up to the truth of our identities and what it means to be us.  To be me and to be you. Campus shows us life in softer colours and cushioned falls, what I should be doing as me. The responsibilities I have and the priorities I am inclined to choose from.  It is awareness that my life is my own and that I am my own man.  It has made me defensive of my own rights and not arrogant of yours, you copy?? If I knew then what I know now, life should have taken drastic turns. Like Barry Allen doing something with the timeline. Campus is about taking risks, finding out new things, choosing from total entities; the good and tossing over your shoulder those that do not belong. We learn to make choices either wrong or right and learn from the wrong ones we make and put to good use the right ones. From making friends to switching courses to all that bullshit that campus makes of us. Let me tell you, campus beats the tripe out of us to pulp.  It brings our way (we all travel the same road, right?) nightmares dressed in daydreams, ghouls in romance pots and we are almost always, tempted to touch but we know better than to stick around. It is what campus has shown me. And what about opportunities that campus brings? Yes, you don’t know about that mum, and dad, do you? That there is never anything that can give you the key to success, not even an education. What campus does is to show you where and how to look within yourself. There is no guarantee to being successful after campus but at least campus lets you know that if you search deep within you, beyond skin and bone… you may as well drive destiny the right way. I’ve known how long you spend on your knees each night before you go to bed folks, I do too. I am aware that you have been having sleepless nights thinking maybe, just maybe, campus wasn’t the right choice for your child but then you need a rose tinted and a larger frame of reference to look both sides of the coin. To see our lives in brighter lights like we do. I also have to admit though that while I am away, I die a thousand times inside for a proper meal but we can keep that for another day. For now peeps, just wait on the world to change and don’t get us misunderstood.
